APC Youth Organization's Inaugural Speech- Comr. Samsideen Ogunolu; convener
Comr. Samsideen Ogunolu; convener Illorin, Kwara State, Nigeria Saturday 20th April, 2019.
My most profound gratitude goes to the Nigerian electorate who have worked assiduously to ensure the re-election of President Muhammad Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo for the second term.
I also congratulate all our senators, House of Representative members, Governors and House of Assembly members who were victorious at the just concluded 2019 general elections.
I extend my thanks to leadership of APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, and Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has shown tremendous support for the youth agenda by organising BOLA TINUBU YOUTH SUPPORT(BTYS), which coincidentally holds on the same day of our inauguration. It really goes a long way to show the high premium he placed on the youths.
More importantly, we use this opportunity to appeal to political gladiators not to undermine the peace and security in the country by overheating the polity. But rather channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters by going to court.
APC Youth organization came into existence as a platform to solve the yearning and demand for youth inclusiveness in government. The quest for youths to hold high profiled and sensitive offices and positions in our present day modern democracy has become a global phenomenon, and Nigeria cannot be left behind.
The organization amongst other functions, serves the purpose of bridging the existing gap between the youths and the leaders in authority by way of seeking direction and guidelines. It also preaches peace, unity and co-operation, teamwork and hard work to curb social vices among youths. The organization has in its projects, skill acquisitions and youth empowerment programs as a way of youth integration and compensation for their input and peaceful disposition before, during and after the elections.
We are happy with what we have on ground today. The narratives are changing for better and the youths are no longer playing second fiddle. We have the potentials to offer quality governance as tenable in other developing countries of the world.
Ultimately, the role of the organization is to build consensus and get people moving in an agreed direction that will usher good dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
We appreciate the effort of President Muhamadu Buhari to make the youths self-reliant by providing excellent empowerment schemes like the N-Power programmes for graduates, as a means of volunteering for the success of youths.
However, we appeal to the president to create more opportunities for our teeming youths being churned out by various institutions of learning across the country. This can be achieved by creating more entrepreneurship programmes and equipping our universities to be ICT compliant.
In the area of appointments, we humbly appeal to His Excellency; President Muhamadu Buhari not to renege on his promise during his re-election campaign to allocate 40% of his government appointment slots to youths. This promise if fulfilled, will give the youths good sense of belonging and compensation for their contributions towards his victory.
Similarly, we want to honestly appeal to His Excellency, President Muhamadu Buhari to improve in the free education to help indigent students and serve as indirect empowerment to widows who could not afford their wards' school fees and reduce the number of Out-Of-School children in Nigeria.
Despair is real for many of our youths because of absence of education and employment in feudal society, and limited opportunities for economic and political empowerment.
The consequences are predictable and they are indeed awful.
We equally want to remind the president of his campaign promise to NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN to support the emergence of youthful candidate in the next Presidential elections and implore the youths to always vote beyond ethnic sentiment and religious lines.
We cannot achieve the above objectives alone, hence, we need your collaboration and support to grow as a tree cannot make a forest. Access to funds for campaigns has been a major problem to us due to the increasing economic disparity between youths and the political elite. Though our beginning is small, but with dedication and determination, we shall greatly increase. The youth organisations is a joint task, and we welcome all stakeholders and progressive minds to join us champion this course. We are resilient and resolute to see the emergence of youth oriented government come 2023. It's a task we all must assume in our various localities.
The future of Nigeria and Africa at larger rests in our hands and we need each other irrespective of political differences to accomplish this task. All positive contributions are needed at to bring positive transformation to our fatherland.
With youth on board, next level is assured.
