The Petroleum Training Institute Matriculation ceremony for 2018/2019 academic session was held in grand style as Students gathered at the Petroleum Training Institute conference Hall to listen to the Principal welcome address, take the Matriculation oath and as well to be presented by Various Departmental heads to the Academic board, Kimuenu Andrew reporting.

As part of the requirement in all institute and as a means of formally accepting or welcoming all new students into the academy environment, It provides opportunity for Students who have gained admission into the institute to be well informed about the institute.
In a reports received by VoiceAirMedia that the Petroleum Training Institute Effurun Warri, Delta State was not left behind as her Matriculation ceremony for her 2018/2019 academy session was held on Friday 18th, January 2019.
Before the Matriculation ceremony saw various session of Orientation program organized by the management of the institution for all new students to enlighten them of the DO and DON'T of the institute.
The orientation program which lasted for two days ran through January 10th-11th January 2019 at the lecture theater of the institute. It features various heads of offices within the institute to give a vivid Orientation on various field and scopes within the school to ensure students don't fall victim of any. The speakers which includes Mr Odogun the Chief security officer who spoke about security in the school, The head of clinic was well represented to speak on issues pertaining health, the Chief librarian Mr. Richard T. Obashe and the students were taken on a tour around the school library, also speaking was the representative from the Exams and record , Students Affairs Officer Mr Irefo Elvis, the Students Union Government president Comrade Obiokavo Daniel and lots more to ensure Students are well informed beforehand.
The Matriculation ceremony which was slated for 10:00am on Friday 18th January 2019 at the Petroleum Training Institute conference center hall started with a progression lead by the PTI brass band with their tremendous instruments display that saw dignitries with the likes of the principal Prof.E. Sunny Iyuke, vice principal Mrs Eriarie Arhagba, Registrar Mr Siakpere O.C, directors of faculty, Department heads and other dignitries leading the progression.
The ceremony was anchored by the Register Mr Siakpere O.C who invited the principal for his welcome address where he commended all present as well as the PTI BRASS BAND before the national anthem was taken, the principal was as well again called to give the matriculation address where he formally welcome all new students to the combined matriculation ceremony of the full time and school of industrial continuing education (SIES), Part-time students behalf of the academic board, management and Staff of the Petroleum Training Institute.
He expanciate on the meaning of matriculations an avenue of formally injecting into the institute all admitted students. According to his speech, A total of 2800 candidate applied for admission to pursue a career in Higher National Diploma, National Diploma and Certificate Program for the year 2018/2019 session and that out of the above number, 1,896 candidate were qualified for admission by the standard of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as well as the PTI internal requirement where applicable.
He gave a brief background on how the school as established by Act CAPP16, 2014.The principal made it clear that PTI running for 47 years now has been the hub for petroleum expertise of providing hands on field, as there is no company in Nigeria without a PTI graduate.
The principal Prof.Sunny Iyuke stated that the institute is partnering with various institution to share ideals, provide information for students and staff for mutual benefit of both parties. As the institution is vigorously pursuing the digitization project DIPTI.He said the institution is collaborating with The University of Port Harcourt to run a Post HND leading to the award of Bachelor Of Engineering (B.Eng.) and Master in Engineering which commenced last year 2018.
The principal also disclosed the plan on ground to re-evaluate and add value to the dignity of the institute programmes,he disclosed that in the nearest future,pti will be awarding B-tech other than HND as b-tech is widely accepted not as HND which is limited outside the nation. He reaffirmed that the proposal will be dropped with the pti governing council and to the national university commission(NUC) for consideration.
He also expresses management commitment in providing a conducive learning environment for all students to ensure maximum comfort as they pursue their individual career. He made mention of the renovation done in the hostels and the street lights in the school environment to ensure a conducive stay. He advised students to minimize energy usage as cost of electricity on campus has be reduced from sixteen million naira to about six million naira and still believe that it can furtherly be reduced will the co-operation of all.
The principal talked on the rules and regulations guarding every Student of the school which are in the student handbook. He advised that students should strictly adhere to them especially to the five Unforgiving crimes which were; Examination misconduct, Certificate forgery, Stealing, Physically and Sexual Assault, Cultism, Drug Peddling and smoking of Indian hemp on Campus that such will lead to expulsion without appeal.
He conclusively reminded the students of their primary aim of coming to school and appealed they energize in that direction. In his words, he said “Remember you were admitted as individual so you will also graduate as individual, so you are responsible for your actions”. He admonished them with the words of Colin R. Davis who said ‘The road to success and the failure are almost exactly the same’ .He promised that the management will do their best to ensure that the new students stays on campus as pleasant as possible.
Following the principal's speech was the presentation of new students to the academy board by the various Departmental head, The department were as followed ; Computer Science Department followed by Electrical engineering department, Industrial Safety and Environmental Department, Mechanical engineering department, Petroleum Marketing department, Petroleum and Geo-science department, Petroleum and Natural Gas Processing Department and lastly was Welding and Offshore Technology.
The Principal led them to take the matriculation oath after which the ceremony came to an end with a closing speech by the principal.
Campus reporters had conversations with some of the new students who expressed their satisfaction concerning their admission and the ceremony, among them was Richmond Ibrahim from the department of Petroleum Engineering ND 1, He said he is promising his parent to expect the very best from him and that he enjoyed the ceremony but his mind is still not settled having not written any exam yet. Another Student was Oghenetega Uti Emmanuel from the department of Industrial Safety (ISET) HND 1, he expressed satisfaction as one of the Matriculating Students and gave God all the glory for him being short listed. Lastly was Miss Amarachi a student from the department of ISET, she expressed her satisfaction and encouraged everyone out there seeking for admission to hold on to God that God will surely come to their aid at the appointed time.
The party continued at the school premises where Student's family and friends came to congratulate and wish them well in their academy pursuit. The event was closed by a matriculation blast organized by the Student Union Government (SUG), which was an avenue for all Departmental associations and religion bodies to welcome and celebrate the arrival of the new set of students among them.
