Governors meet Buhari over minimum wage again
The Nigerian Governors’ Forum will on Friday meet with President Muhammadu Buhari over the lingering minimum wage crisis.
The governors had proposed N22, 500 as minimum wage while the Federal Government proposed 24,000.
But the Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) is insisting on N30,000.
The governors had argued that the states do not have the resources to pay the wage demand put forward by the labour union.
They maintained that the only condition available to them if they must pay the N30000 is retrenchment, an alternative the workers are not willing to accept.
It was gathered the governors met on Thursday to assess the situation before their meeting with the president on Friday.
Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari, chairman of the forum did not brief the press at the end of the meeting.
However, Mr. Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, Head, Media and Public Affairs, NGF, told newsmen the meeting looked into the issue of the minimum wage as it was going to be part of discussion in the meeting with the President on Friday.
He also said they intend to use the opportunity to thank the president on his handling of the economy.
He said also welcomed Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola into its fold.
Oyetola had earlier commended the meeting, saying it provided opportunity for them as governors to peer review each other and also share best practices.
