Nigerian Banks on Social Media: Check how popular your bank is
Social Media platforms have become viable advertising tools for banks to reach out to their customers. Responses from banks to customer enquiries and complaints on social media are a lot swifter than responses from other offline enquiries perhaps because banks want to create good images for themselves online, especially among the media savvy youth population available online.
Facebook is arguably the most popular social media platform and Nigerian Banks have been using the medium effectively. From Videos and image adverts of products, to motivational and encouraging engagements and talks, to quiz and contest with prices for customers. Facebook has remained a good social media platform for media engagement and issues resolutions between banks and their customers.
As at December 2019 when we first published ‘Nigerian Banks on Social Media – How popular is yours as at Dec. 2019’. Facebook likes of some Nigerian banks have grown, while figures have dropped for some others, Here are the current Facebook like figures for most of the banks in 3 categories. Category 1 are tier-1 banks, category 2 are tier-2 banks and the last category are the new banks.
Of the 5 Nigerian tier-1 Banks GTBank still have the most likes on Facebook with over 6 million likes but the bank has dropped its like figures by 124,000 since December 2019. Zenith Bank c;losely followed GTBank with 5.95 milliok likes and had grown its lie figures by 152,000 from December figures of 5.8 million likes.
Access Bank, UBA and FirsBank currently has 2.62 million, 2.69 million and 2.34 million likes respectively. FirstBank had the highest growth in likes among the 5 tier 1 banks with an increase of 431,000 likes between December 2019 and June 2020 while Access and UBA grew their likes by 29,000 and 296,000 respectively.
Of the 12 Tier 2 banks, FCMB has the highestt number of likes on Facebook as at Junet 2020 with 1.56 million likes. The bank also grew by 72,000 likes. Stanbic IBTC beats Fidelity to the 2nd highest likes between December 2019 and June 2020 with the highest increase of 570,000 while Fidelity lost 249,000 likes in the last 6 months.
Heritage, Wema and Unity Banks had the lowest likes on Facebook with 163,000, 156,000 and 99,000 likes with the 3 banks losing 4,000, 1,000 and 1,000 likes respectively between December 2012 and June 2020
Of the new banks, Globus bank has over 10,000 likes on Facebook to shoot above Providus bank which had the likes of 9,980 as at December 2019. While SunTrust Bank has the lowest likes with 1.,770 likes with a growth of 120 likes above December 2019 likes on Facebook.
