Unemployment: Labour ministry lied, our statistics accurate - NBS insists
In what will surprise many Nigerians, the ministry of Labour and Employment under the leadership of Chris Ngige has been blasted by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The NBS took to social media platform Twitter on Friday, April 30, to drag Ngige who faulted the bureau's stastitics on employment in Nigeria.
The minister had recently claimed that the modalities NBS employs in arriving at its data does not conform with global standard.
He said: “There has been a little confusion there as to the accuracy of data generated by the NBS. So, we want to align everything tomorrow.
The World Bank says the NBS methodology doesn’t conform with the global standard, especially the ILO (International Labour Organisation) format of arriving at such Employment Index.”
In its reaction, NBS wote on Twitter: “The World Bank has denied making any such statement and rather together with the economic advisory committee affirmed its confidence, commendation, support and close working relationship with NBS.
The World Bank can be contacted if in doubt.”
