West Brom demolish Chelsea 5-2 at Stamford Bridge, Hand Tuchel First Premier League Defeat
Chelsea suffered their first defeat under Thomas Tuchel as a determined West Brom sprung a surprise by hitting them by 5-2 at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues had to play a large chunkiness of the game with 10-men after Thiago Silva was sent off for preventing a goal-scoring opportunity.
In a game where Sam Allardyce’s men were given virtually no chance, The Baggies’ were surprisingly clinical as a brace each from Callum Robinson and Matheus Pereira helped them to a famous win.
Chelsea drew first blood in the 27th minute courtesy of Christian Pulisic, who bobbled in the rebound after Marcos Alonso’s free-kick from 25 yards was initially dealt by Sam Johnstone.
Barely a minute later and things took a turn for the worse for Tuchel’s men as Thiago Silva was given his marching orders after catching Okay Yokuslu who was seemingly through on goal.
The red card renewed West Brom’s energy and the Baggies looked a lot more dangerous going forward and their efforts were eventually rewarded at the stroke of half time. Sam Johnstone lobbed the ball forward for Matheus Pereira to perfectly read it as he beat Kurt Zouma to flick it to the back of the net. First half drama did not end there as the game was turned on its head minutes later Pereira once again found the back of the net after some brilliant individual play in the box.
Tuchel brought on his star man Mason Mount in the second half to try to salvage the game and the Blues looked dangerous with the England midfielder in the side going forward.
Westbrom who once again stunned their hosts with some brilliant football as Callum Robinson whipped in a brilliant volley from Darnell Furlong’s cross to make it 3-1.
In all honesty, West Brom did not look like a side fighting against relegation as and they were 4-1 up five minutes later, this time Mbaye Diagne benefiting from nice play from his team mates.
Chelsea pulled a goal back courtesy of Mason Mount who tapped the ball in after Timo Werner squared it from six yards. Thiago Silva’s red card seemed to have disoriented the Blues, who simply could not find a way back despite having more possession and more attempts.
Their luck was summed up in the final minutes of the game when West Brom got a fifth as Callum Robinson completed his brace with a delicate chip past Mendy.
Defeat deals a blow to Tuchel’s side as they find themselves only two points off fifth-placed West Ham, who are yet to play.
For West Brom, belief that they will survive will be at an all-time high as the win puts them only seven points off safety with eight games to go
