Prioritise Establishment of Shariah Court, Nigerian Judge Tells Southwest Governors



 Justice Abdurraheem Ahmad Sayi, a Khadi of the Kwara state Shariah Court of Appeal has asked southwest governors to prioritise the introduction of Shariah court in the region for a better and crime-free society.


 Nigerian Tribune reports that Sayi made the request while speaking at an annual pre-Ramadan lecture in Idimu, Lagos state. 


He argued that states operating the Shariah legal system enjoyed freedom from wrongdoing and crime. 


 According to Justice Sayi, Shariah Court stands against are injustice, crime, sexual immorality, corruption, terrorism among others. 



Sayi, who double as the Chief Imam of Silver Point Central Mosque, Badore, Ajah, explained that any society that takes the establishment as a priority is bound to be great and safe for all. 


This is not the first time, calls have been renewed for the establishment of a Sharia court. This will adjudicate cases concerning Muslims has begun by the Muslim community in Lagos state. 


The Muslim community had an interactive session with Owolabi Salis, the governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD). 


Vanguard reports that Prof. Abdulmumini Oba a lecturer at the University of Ilorin back in 2020, called for the establishment of Sharia Courts South West to cater to the Muslim faithful Oba, in a paper presented at the 189th Inaugural Lecture of the university titled: “Live and let live; rethinking the legal responses to religious, ethnic and legal pluralism”.
