Asylum To IPOB: Buhari Govt Must Review Relationship With UK – Arewa youths

The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Wednesday, faulted the decision of the United Kingdom, UK, to grant asylum to members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Yerima Shettima, National President of AYCF, said the Nigerian government should review its relationship with its UK counterpart, following such a move.

Reports had surfaced yesterday that the UK government plans to grant asylum to members of IPOB and the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB.

The Nigerian government had frowned at the news which it claimed would undermine the fight against terrorism and insecurity

However, Shettima, in a chat with DAILY POST wondered if Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB and his members are more important than that of Nigeria.

Shettima called on the Nigerian government to be decisive in its decision against its UK counterpart.

He said: “It’s a clear indication that the Nigerian government would have to review its relationship with the United Kingdom, UK, because they cannot have a good relationship with a state such as Nigeria and at the same time be giving asylum to a major threat, who is an enemy of this country, a criminal with his organisation proscribed and listed among those of terrorist organisation in the world.

“Giving them asylum means something is wrong, this means that to an extent we will start thinking that the UK has a hand in our problems; now what becomes the interest of UK in putting them ahead of us.

“I was wondering, is the UK government pretending that they do not know that this guy (Nnamdi Kanu) is doing harm to Nigeria? Is it that they folded their arms for obvious reasons best known to them?

“Are they saying their relationship with that individual criminal is far better than what they have with Nigeria under diplomacy? Something is wrong and for me, the relationship has to be reviewed.

“The Nigerian government must be decisive; it is either the UK government repatriates him to face his trials or they say that Kanu is better than Nigeria.”

Cow Bill In Senate: Proposed Database For Cows By Senate Sparks Outrage

A bill seeking to create a database for cows in the country has elicited a flurry of reactions.

The Nation learnt the bill for an act to provide for National Livestock Bureau scaled second reading at Tuesday’s plenary session.

According to the proposed law sponsored by Senator Muhammad Enagi (Niger South), the agency will be in charge of identification, traceability and registration of livestock such as cows and goats to among other things curb cattle rustling.

It will also ensure the protection, control and management of all livestock in Nigeria.

Enagi said in addition to checking cattle rustling, the bill will help address the diseases and other threats to human lives caused by the movement of livestock.

He said the agency in charge will also ensure that animal products being imported into, or sold in, Nigeria are easily traced to ensure human safety.

The Senator said livestock identification by the agency will include ownership and other details including their origin, birthplace, sex and breed.

But Nigerians on social media carpeted the Senate for considering such bill, describing it as irrelevant.

Social commentator Adetutu Balogun said: “A country yet to complete a National Database for people is proposing a National Database for Cows. Thank you you United Kingdom for my citizenship.

Co-founder and Chief Operations Officer PiggyVest Odunayo Eweniyi tweeted:”Not a single unified database for the people, but sureeeee let’s do it for the cows.”

Dr Olufunmilayo said: “Twitter to open Africa HQ in Ghana. Amazon to put Africa HQ in South Africa. Germany to open Global Pandemic Prevention Centre in Ghana.

“Guess what Nigeria is doing? Nigeria to have National Database for Cows. Pls don’t laugh. This is a true life story from the Giant of Africa.”

Sodiq Tade wrote: “Serious Countries are putting in place policies to attract huge Investors, but in Nigeria we are working on creating National database for cows. Sigh”

Ifa Funsho argued: “If Nigeria is not a zoo, how can senators be talking about database for cows not data base for Nigerians?”
