Super Eagles Boss Gernot Rohr Makes Another Crucial Comment On Captain Musa Ahead Of Friendly Matches
Nigeria's technical adviser Gernot Rohr has insisted that the Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa will not play any of his side's 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month.
The three-time AFCON champions face-off with Benin and Lesotho in their remaining two Group L fixtures on March 27th and 31st.
With eight points from their first four games, Rohr's men cannot afford to be complacent in any of the matches -especially after the back-to-back draws against Sierra Leone last November.
Despite inviting club-less Musa for these fixtures, the German-born tactician has reiterated that the former Leicester winger is in camp because he is the team skipper according to the Caf website.
“Musa is our captain, and he is a part of the team though he won’t play because he has not been active, but we want to assist him to train and he will also help our team as we prepare for these two important matches.”
The invitation of the former Kano Pillars man sparked up diverse reactions from ex-internationals with many of them claiming the attacker will be rusty for the games.
He has been club-less since last October after parting ways with the Foxes on mutual consent and all efforts to secure a new deal with a fresh club has been difficult.
West Bromwich Albion attempted to bring the player back to the Premier League but the move collapsed in the end.
With his current status, he might be excluded from the final squad to the AFCON 2022 championship in Cameroon next year if the country qualifies and he has not secured a deal for himself with a new team.
