PDP Suffers Huge Loss in Southeast as Ebonyi State Chairman, Party Excos, Others Defect to APC

Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the factional chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi state, has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The Punch reports that Nwebonyi defected to the APC alongside other executive members of his faction from ward to the state levels, as well as other party members.

VAM News gathers that the former PDP leaders announced their resignation from the PDP and subsequent defection to the APC on Saturday, March 27, at Pa Ngele Oruta stadium, Abakaliki, The Nation also reported.

Nwebonyi said their decision to join the APC was due to the alleged “undemocratic practices” in the PDP.

Recall that Nwebonyi and other executives of the PDP in Ebonyi state were sacked by the national leadership of the party following Governor David Umahi's defection to the APC in 2020.

The PDP leadership also appointed a caretaker committee led by Elder Fred Udeogu to pilot the affairs of the party in Ebonyi state, in the interim.

However, Nwebonyi and his supporters rejected the dissolution and dragged the party to court. It is expected that their defection will finally put an end to the legal battle.

Receiving Nwebonyi and other defectors, the caretaker chairman of the APC in Ebonyi state, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, thanked them for making a wise decision. He also urged them to go to their various wards and register with the party.
