Osun: Atidade makes case for tourist centres
Lawmaker representing Ede south constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Olaniran Akanfe Atidade has decried the deplorable and pitiful condition of the Oluminrin waterfall in Erin-Ijesha, Oriade Local Government areas of the state.
Hon. Atidade in a statement made available to VAM News after the oversight visit of the house committee on tourism to the waterfall expressed concern over the unavailability of basic amenities at the tourist site and the poor condition of the few available ones.
The astute parliamentarian revealed that the committee's visit to the site was in fulfilling the mandate given to them by the speaker to carry out an assessment of the place stated that;
"It is very sad to see a tourism site like Erin-Ijesha waterfall in such a pitiful condition like this, as most of the facilities here are obsolete and in dire need of urgent facelift". He said.
He stated further that; "Erin-Ijesha waterfall is one of the most prominent and important tourists attraction sites in Nigeria, and it is quite shocking that this "gold mine" that should be source of great fortune to the state is being left to rot.
"Most of the buildings and other facilities here were put in place by the administration of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and virtually all of them are dilapidated and calling for urgent attention".
"I'll suggest that the government invest massively in this place and every other tourists centers in the state in order to boost the state's IGR. There are several countries of the world that rely solely on tourism as a source of revenue and they are doing wonderfully well. Our story as a state can be the same if we put necessary resources into developing the sector.
"This place (Erin-Ijesha) is already serving as Mecca for tourists and fun seekers from across the country, the only thing needed is to give it a facelift and make it a destination for tourists from all walks of life".
