One dead, several hospitalised as another strange disease hits Kano
A strange ailment has hit residents of Gwangwan village in the Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State as victims vomit and urinate blood.
Gwangwan village is about 136 kilometres from Kano City.
Sources in the community said six places within the village were affected as no fewer than 60 persons have so far contracted the disease since the outbreak.
Sources revealed that the areas hit by the outbreak of the disease include Gwangwan Yamma, Unguwar Tsarmai, Gangare, Unguwar Kofar Fada, Unguwar Rijiyar Dadi and Gwangwan Gabas.
Residents said no fewer than 35 people have been hospitalised at Rogo General Hospital within a day of the outbreak.
“As I am talking to you now, no fewer than 35 persons were hospitalised at the Rogo General Hospital within one day of the outbreak. So far, only one person died as a result of the outbreak,” the source added.
Another source said some of the affected persons could not even stand on their feet as a result of the severity of the disease.
However, Officials of the Rogo Hospital, who spoke with PUNCH, said they were not aware of any disease outbreak.
Similarly, officials at the Ministry of Health said the ministry received a report of the outbreak but only four persons contracted the disease and have since been treated and discharged from the health facility in Rogo.
Recall that the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control had explained that the strange disease reported in Kano State some days ago was caused by food poisoning through a flavoured drink.
