UNIABUJA PROTEST: School Management Reopens Portal after NANS visit

•Payment of late registration stopped

Students of the University of Abuja on Monday staged a protest along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Expressway and main entrance to the campus against alleged hike in tuition fee and other issues.

The students were seen carrying placards with different inscriptions kicking against alleged closure of the portal meant for the payment of school fees and others.

Meanwhile, NANS, under the leadership of Comr. Sunday Asefon, met with the Vice-Chancellor to discuss issues and mediate on behalf of Uniabuja students.

According to a press statement released and signed by Comr. Asefon and as obtained by VAM News, the management has rescinded her decision to close the portal and also extends the closing date till 28th of February, 2021.

Also, Asefon said students need not to panic unnecessarily as payment of late registration has been stopped and those who have made payment will all be refunded as agreed by the management.

Full press statement below:

Given the crises that engulfed the University of Abuja, I and my team met with the Vice-Chancellor Yesterday.

We reinstated the right of our students to protest anti-students policies and advocated for the re-adjustment of the contending issues.

It was agreed that the portal will now be opened until the 28th of February and examinations will start on the 21st of February.

Students will not be asked to pay for late registration and those that have paid will get their money back.

Students will not be victimized under any guise for protesting and the university will do more to listen to students' agitations and concerns.

We, therefore, plead with all stakeholders to ensure that the academic calendar goes seamlessly as planned. NANS under my leadership will continue to fight for welfare and better deals for Nigerian students anywhere in the world.

We shall continue to identify with the struggles of the students of UofA and every other institution in Nigeria.

Viva Aluta.

Sunday Asefon

Revolutionary President of NANS
