Insecurity: Again, Soyinka hits hard at Buhari, speaks on who is in charge of Nigeria
...says he doesn’t believe president is in charge
Prof. Wole Soyinka has berated President Buhari over insecurity in the country - The literary icon made this known while featuring on a TV programme - Soyinka also noted that the president does not understand the gravity of the farmer-herders crisis.
The Nigeria's literary icon and Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has expressed concern over the high rate of insecurity in the country.
Daily Trust reports that Soyinka said he does not believe President Muhammadu Buhari is in charge of the country.
VAM News gathered that while reacting to the rising insecurity in the country during a programme on Arise TV, Soyinka said the president does not appreciate the enormity of the problems.
He said happenings in the country shows Buhari does not understand the gravity of the farmer-herders crisis.
Soyinka said: “I have said this before and I wish to repeat this, Buhari does not appreciate the situation. He doesn’t understand, I see no evidence that he understands how grave the situation is.
“I have said again and again that I don’t believe he is in charge, because it’s not possible in my view for a head of state, a commander-in-chief of the armed forces to say he is presiding over a nation and things get to this level, something is critically wrong within the leadership of this nation."
He also clarified the reports that herdsmen attacked him at his residence, saying nothing of such happened.
However, the scholar narrated how some cattle strayed into his residence, describing how some herdsmen fled into the bush when he confronted them.
Meanwhile, Olaokun Soyinka, son of Wole Soyinka, denied the report claiming that herders attacked his father’s house in Ogun state. It was reported that Olaokun made this known in a statement on Wednesday, February 10.
He was reacting to a viral video on social media in which it was alleged that the Nobel laureate’s house was attacked by herders on Tuesday, February 9.
In the viral video, a voice who claimed to work for a media house alleged that some herders attacked Soyinka’s house and threatened to kill him.
