Farmers-herders crisis: Miyetti Allah releases 3 conditions to stop clashes

In the last few weeks, prominent Nigerians and groups have proffered solutions that can help tackle the issue which has bedevilled the country.

The southeast zone of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) is the latest group to open up on what can end the incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers.

According to the herders association, it will support any policy by the government that seeks to stop the clashes as far as it would be of benefit to both parties.

Alhaji Gidado Sidikki, the chairman of the association in the southeast, listed the following conditions to be followed by the government in order to an end to the lingering crisis, according to The Nation.

Northern group alleges Yoruba elders are aiming to create fear and tension

1. Training and re-training of Fulani herdsmen on Mechanized Grazing

2. Provision of land for Ranching in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT

3. Town Hall Meetings between Government, Farmers and the Herders in the affected areas.

VAM News recalls that the speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, said that dialogue is the only solution to the herdsmen crisis ravaging most parts of Nigeria.

Gbajabiamila stated this in his talk with State House correspondents after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, February 3.

The speaker noted that to reach an amicable resolution of the issues, both the herdsmen themselves and the host communities must be willing and ready to come to the table for discussion as it is done in all civilised societies.
