Breaking: Nigeria's former minister Tony Momoh is dead

 



A report by Nigerian Tribune indicates that a foremost Nigerian journalist, Prince Tony Momoh, is dead.


VAM News gathered that Momoh was born on April 27, 1939, in Auchi, Edo state.


Prince Momoh was a veteran journalist and politician whose political activities transverse across the length and breadth of the country.


The deceased served as a minister of information and culture between 1986 and 1990 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB).



He was among the founders of the ruling APC.


Meanwhile, Newsmen previously reported that the chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benue state, Victoria Asher, died.



It was reported that Asher's death was disclosed in a statement released by Moses Akarhan, the NUJ state secretary.


The NUJ boss died on Saturday, January 30, at about 8 am at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Makurdi, Benue state capital, after a Ceascrean Section surgery.


Until her death, Asher was a staff with the Benue state’s owned radio station.


Asher's death has drawn reaction from the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom. The PDP chieftain expressed shock over the ugly incident.


He described Asher’s death as a painful loss not only to the media community but also to the entire state.


The governor prayed to God to grant her eternal rest and give her husband, the entire family and her colleagues the strength to bear the loss.
