Sango-ota-Idiroko road in Ota, Ogun state has been in dilapidated state for what seems like ages. For a region with a hundred and one factories including the largest industrial estate in the country- Agbara Industrial estate- the bad state of its roads regularly result in traffic jam of monumental proportion to residents, motorists, commuters and business operators in Ota.

The Sango-ota – Idiroko road links Nigeria to countries like Republic of Benin, Togo, Ghana among others. As a matter of fact, the road is too important to the economy of Ogun State and Nigeria as well as the well-being of the people of the country to be neglected.

Yet commuters plying the route continuously experience hardships, pains and frustrations due to negligence on the part of the government.

The road, at different sections is dotted with different sizes of potholes and over the years have turned into death traps for the hapless road users and residents alike.

Sango-under bridge axis, Ojuore, frontage of Iganmode Grammar School, frontage of General Hospital Ota, and a stretch at Owode, Yewa axis among others, all have failed and endlessly waiting for repairs.

Apart from the fact that the route for years is no longer motorable, kidnappers have taken advantage of the situation to carry out their nefarious activities, VAM News learnt.

Motorists and commuters lament the hardships encountered as a result of the state of the road. They said the abject state of the road makes life unbearable for them.

According to those who spoke with VAM News, the Obasanjo and Iyana-Iyesi sections are among parts of the road that need urgent attention.

They, however, lamented the stress of passing through Ojuore axis where there is a roundabout connecting Iganmode and a junction nearby. Being a road with the multiplicity of industrial concentration, the road is mostly filled by heavy trucks.

This reason couple with the fact that a great number of private and public cars ply the road makes Ojuore a place of heavy traffic jam.

A commuter, Ayodele Babafemi, said "The Sango under-bridge usually witness heavy gridlock on weekdays. The potholes make vehicular movement slow"

A motorists, Kayode Balogun, also said "The Ojuore axis of the road always witness heavy traffic jam.

"Also during raining season, most parts of the road especially sango is flooded and it affects traffic flow".

A certain Kazeem mohammed, said the government should consider the rehabilitation of the bypass from Obasanjo area of the Sango-Idiroko Road to Osi Ota to disconcentrate traffic at Ojoure.

"I advised the government the fix the Obasanjo road. Doing this, i believe will reduce the traffic at Ojoure".

Some residents equally bemoaned the state of the road.

They, however, pleaded to the government to come to their mercy and rehabilitate the road.
