Nigerian University Director Attacked By Gunmen In Akure –Ado-Ekiti Road
The Director of Physical Planning of the College of Education Ikere (now Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology), Mr Ajewole on Tuesday was attacked by unknown gunmen along the Ado Ekiti – Akure road.
The incident reportedly happened on Tuesday evening between Itaogbolu and Akure axis of the busy highway.
The Director was rushed to undisclosed hospital.
It was learnt that the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers who were hiding in the bush along the road attacked the director’s vehicle and shot severally at his vehicle in an attempt to stop him from fleeing.
Reports had it that the director was hit by some of the bullets rained at his vehicle.
All efforts to speak with Mr Ajewole proved abortive as at time of press, he is still responding to treatment.
This is coming barely few hours after gunmen kidnapped all the passengers in an Abuja-bound commercial bus along the Benin-Auchi road in Edo State.
Tuesday’s kidnap in the state adds to the worsening insecurity across Nigeria.
At least 349 people were killed and 290 others kidnapped in November in violent attacks across Nigeria, a report by a non-governmental organisation, Nigeria Mourn, shows.
