BREAKING: Ayinla Omowura's lead drummer, Adewole Alao is dead
The lead talking drummer and Band Captain of Ayinla Omowura Apala music band, Pa. Adewole Alao Onilu-Ola is dead.
VAM News gathered the legendary drummer died at the age of 97 on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State around 8pm after battling with illness over a month.
His death was confirmed to Newsmen by the daughter of the late Ayinla Omowura, Halimat.
Also, confirming the death, Barrister Sunny Olurotimi Oduntan wrote on his facebook page: “REST IN PEACE BABA ADEWOLE ALAO ONILU OLA…. We will all Miss you!!
His last public outing was when Members of the Ayinla Omowura Music Lovers International on 28th November, 2020 gathered at Abeokuta to celebrate his 97th birthday.
Adewole, aged 97 was well known for his creativity in music and his massive music understanding with his late Principal and Apala music maestro, Late Alhaji Waheed Ayinla Omowura.
Adewole was pronounced dead over 40years after the death of his Principal Ayinla Omowura on May 6, 1980.
Both the singer Ayinla Omowura and the drummer, Adewole dazzled party goers in the 60s and 70s with their unique Apala music which was then the toast of music lovers within the SouthWest, Nigeria.
From the days of the old Western Region to the creation of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Kwara States, Ayinla Omowura was ome of the biggest music bands in that part of Nigeria.
Also known as Anigilaje or Eegunmagaji, Ayinla Omowura died in a controversial manner after a Beer Parlour brawl with his Band Manager, Fatai Bayewu.
His death at the time threw the entire Nigerian music family into mourning.
Late Adewole contributed immensely to the huge success of Anigilaje’s music career.
Few years ago, late Adewole was highly celebrated by the Showbiz family for his short but largely impactful contribution to the music industry.
He was the band leader and lead drummer for the legendary Apala Icon, Waidi Olukayode Anigilaje Ayinla omo Yesufu Gbogbolowo popularly called Ayinla Omowura. Baba Abdulrahman Adewole Alao Onilu-ola will be fondly remembered for the great hits they did together like Orin Owo Ile Eko, Omi Tuntun Tiru, Anjonu Elere, Àwa kìà se olodi won and many more.
