U.S. 2020: "They are trying to steal the election” – Donald Trump speaks as Joe Biden says ‘on track to win’

US President Donald Trump has accused his opponents of electoral malpractices in Tuesday presidential election.

According to the Republican candidate, his opponents are casting votes after polls are closed.

“We are up big but they are trying to steal the election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the polls are closed!” he tweeted.

With polls gradually closing across the United States Tuesday, a long night of waiting for results ahead.

The first results are trickling in, with US media projecting wins for the Republican incumbent so far in 13 states including Indiana, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Tennessee and West Virginia — all states he won in 2016.

Democratic challenger Joe Biden has captured 11 states including his home state Delaware and big prize New York, plus the US capital Washington. As with Trump, so far, all states claimed by Biden were won by Democrat Hillary Clinton in 2016.

So far, that gives Biden 126 electoral votes and Trump 89. The magic number is 270. Observers expect the hotly contested race for the White House to come down to a handful of key battleground states.

Meanwhile, Phil Scott, the Governor of Vermont, and a chieftain of the Republican party, has revealed that he actually voted for the opposition presidential candidate, Joe Biden. Scott said he had to choose country over party and voted for Democrat’s Joe Biden for president.

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden is marginally leading Republican nominee President Donald Trump in terms of electoral votes. Results are coming in from states were polls have closed.

US Election 2020 Results LIVE Updates:

In-person voting is still on in some parts of the United States. But, results are pouring in from states where polling has closed.

Democratic Party candidate and former vice president Joe Biden is taking on Republican Party’s nominee and incumbent President Donald Trump. California Senator Kamala Harris and Vice President Mike Pence are their respective running mates. Biden is marginally leading Trump in the overall Electoral College vote tally.

Things can still change. Voters were urged to vote early, especially through mail-in ballots, to avoid queues amid the coronavirus pandemic. More than 101 million early votes have been cast. Additionally, about 26.8 million mail ballots are yet to be returned to polling authorities.

As a result, over 100 million votes would have been cast and recorded even before the Election Day. Voters had already cast more than 73 percent of the total votes counted in the 2016 presidential election, even before Election Day. But counting of mail ballots is more laborious and that may delay the result.

Who's leading in the battleground states (as of 11.55 am IST)?

> Biden is leading in Arizona, Minnesota and New Hampshire.

> Trump is leading in Georgia, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Texas.
