Protest: Students Shocked As Fedpoly Ede Shuts Down
The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede in Osun State has announced the immediate shutdown of the institution.
According to a notice sent out to the polytechnic community dated November 3 and signed by Alhaji I. T. Agboola, the Registrar, the sudden postponement of academic activities on the campus by the management was necessitated by the nationwide “EndSARS activities that has refused to abate and the need for the polytechnic to put in place good COVID-19 protocols.”
To this effect, all students of the institution have been directed to vacate the campus on or before 12 noon today, Wednesday, November 4, 2020.
Reacting to the development, however, the body of student-journalists under the aegis of National Union of Campus Journalist, Federal Polytechnic Ede Chapter has expressed shock and dissatisfaction about the management action, saying:
“FPE: NUCJ Ede Chapter frowns at the management over the postponement of academic activities.
“The National Union of Campus Journalist Federal Polytechnic Ede Chapter usually addressed as FPE Students’ Press has taken to the air to express her dissatisfaction at the decision of the management to postpone academic activities.
“In a memorandum released last Tuesday night, the management body of Ede Poly has directed postponement of academic activities.
“Recall that SU, stakeholders and students trooped out en masse today (Tuesday) to show their displeasure at the delay in the commencement of academic activities.
“Ede Poly Management has tagged this responsive action as #EndSARS protest and declared that all academic activities be suspended.”
