Nine people killed as Boko Haram attack Borno Governor again; its not true - Zulum
Boko Haram terrorists on Saturday again ambushed and attacked the convoy of the Governor of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, at Ja’alta along Gajiram to Monguno Road, killing 7 soldiers and 2 members of the Civilian joint task force.
VAM News gathered that the insurgents attacked the convoy, who were on their way to Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area, to distribute relief materials to the newly settled Internal displaced persons (IDP).
It was learnt that the Soldiers and the civilian joint task force were meant to provide protection and support for the Governor who had already travelled from Maiduguri in a helicopter.
A security operative who survived the attack, said: “We were attacked by the gunmen who came with about six trucks and seven motorcycles. We engaged them but we lost 9 of our men”.
“We had no option than to abort the trip and return to Maiduguri with corpses of the deceased. About seven people died immediately but two of my colleagues (soldiers) died from gunshot injuries when we got back to Maiduguri.”
The recent attack on the convoy of the Borno state Governor is the 4th one since he came into office on May 29, 2019.
However, the Governor has denied the report claiming that his convoy was attacked again by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
‘There was neither an attack on the governor directly nor on any component of his convoy.” a statement by Zulum’s media aide, Malam Isa Gusau read.
According to Gusau, Zulum traveled to Baga, spent a day supervising the distribution of food and other relief to thousands of residents and returned to Maiduguri safely with no hitch whatsoever.
“For the record, we write to quickly clarify that contrary to a “breaking news,” by an online news medium, Governor Zulum was neither attacked nor was any component of his convoy attacked by anyone.
“The governor was actually in Baga from Saturday to Sunday, during which he supervised the distribution of food and cash support to 5,000 residents and he assessed major reconstruction and resettlement efforts with no hitch whatsoever.
“While we continually accord respect to all media organizations as supportive partners, we importantly clarify that we have no knowledge of the breaking news” in question.
“As members of the public can testify, it is the culture and principle of Professor Zulum to say things as they are, and in this case, it is what it is- no attack whatsoever. Any media organization that wants further clarification may wish to contact the Nigerian military.
“Meanwhile, Governor Zulum appreciates all well wishers, and he gratefully commends armed forces and civilian volunteers for the relentless efforts to fully regain lasting peace in Borno State,” the statement said.”
