Cavani scores stoppage-time winner as Manchester Utd defeat Southampton

Manchester United came back from two goals don to defeat Southampton 3-2 in a Premier League fixture played at St, Mary's.

Bruno Fernandes and an Edison Cavani's brace canceled first-half goals from Jan Bednarek and James Ward-Prowse.

United started the game brightly and almost went in front through Mason Greenwood and his shot hit the side netting.

The Saint's got their noses in front as a Ward-Prowse corner-kick was headed home by Bednarek to make it 1-0 after 23 minutes.

The Red Devils had a glorious chance to equalize after goalkeeper Alex McCarthy gifted Greenwood a pass but had to make a double save from the Englishman and the second from Bruno Fernandes.

Ward Prowse then doubled the advantage with an exquisite free-kick as he beat David de Gea at the near post to make it 2-0 at Saint Mary's.

Solskjaer made two substitutions as De Gea come off for Dean Henderson while Edison Cavani replaced Greenwood.

Rashford had the first real chance on goal in the second period but McCarthy was equal to the task as he made a brilliant save to keep the two-goal cushion.

But on the hour mark, Fernandes made it 2-1 after he was given time and space to control Cavani's cross before the putting ball into the back of the net.

Cavani almost equalized for United in the 69th minute but his header from a Wan-Bissaka's cross went agonizingly wide.

The Uruguayan finally got the Red Devils back on level terms after heading home a deflected from Fernandes to make it 2-2 in the 74th minute.

The former Paris Saint-Germain scored the winner in the 91st minute with a glancing header from a Rashford's cross to make it 3-3.
