Chaos As Governor Akeredolu Throws N200 Notes On Highway Ahead of Ondo Election (Video)
As the October 10th, 2020 governorship election in Ondo state draws closer.
The incumbent and candidate of the All progressive Congress(APC), Rotimi Akeredolu was captured in a viral video.
In the video, the Governor, who is also a legal practitioner in a campaign convoy, can be seen standing halfway out of a mobile Toyota Land Cruiser Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).
From that position, he goes into a spraying spree, throwing up bundles of N200 notes.
This action left the residents scrambling to get some of the notes as they fell to the ground.
According to eye witnesses, the governor stopped his convoy suring one of the campaign rallies and started throwing bundle of 200 Naira notes to his supporters.
VOICE AIR MEDIA captured that thousands of people jostled to get the money and some of them were severely injured in the process.
Another passerby said the act by the governor was completely irresponsible and the chaos that it caused almost led to a stampede.
Others saw it as an act of desperation by the governor who is scared that he might suffer the same fate as the flag bearer of his party in the just concluded Edo State governorship election.
Meanwhile, this is coming after Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State had warned Akeredolu that he cannot influence the outcome of the Ondo State Governorship election.
Governor Wike had said: “Having lost Edo State, everything will be done not to lose Ondo State because they know that will mean the end of APC.
“It is such pressure that is on INEC and the security agencies now that may lead to their compromising. I fear that INEC and the security agencies may succumb. But I pray they resist it and continue to defend democracy.”
The incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in a battle with Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Agboola Ajayi, the incumbent deputy governor and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), as front runners in the coming election.
On Sunday, 27 November 2016, Akeredolu won the governorship election with 244, 842 votes while Jegede of PDP scored 150, 380 votes and Olusola Oke of AD Party with 126, 889 votes.
