Nigeria records fewer numbers of COVID-19, no new cases in 21 States as Total Infections Exceed 44,000

Nigeria again recorded fewer cases of Coronavirus on Monday, as 21 states did not record any new case and the Total Infections Exceed 44,000.










The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC’s report on Monday shows that the nation records just 288 new cases, which represents a drop from the 304 cases it rakes in on Sunday.


In the last one week, Nigeria has continued to record fewer cases of Coronavirus even with increased testing.


Till date, 44129 cases have been confirmed, 20663 cases have been discharged and 896 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.


“The 288 new cases are reported from 15 states below. .

Kaduna (17),
Plateau (13),
Rivers (13),
Delta (10),
Gombe (8),
Ogun (4),
Oyo (3),
Katsina (1),
Bauchi (1),” the NCDC said.











Meanwhile, the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus, says a number of vaccines are now in phase three clinical trials to prevent COVID-19 pandemic.


Mr Ghebreyesus made this known at a virtual news conference on Monday at the WHO Headquarters in Geneva.










The director-general said: “We all hope to have a number of effective vaccines that can help prevent people from infection.


“However, there’s no silver bullet at the moment and there might never be; for now, stopping outbreaks comes down to the basics of public health and disease control.


“Testing, isolating and treating patients, tracing and quarantining their contacts. Do it all.










“Inform, empower and listen to communities. Do it all.


“For individuals, it’s about keeping physical distance, wearing a mask, cleaning hands regularly and coughing safely away from others. Do it all.’’
