Like Osun Tailor, Bribe-Seeking Police Kill Motorcycle Rider In Oyo











Police officers in Oyo State on Wednesday beat a motorcycle rider identified as Biola to death at Born Photo area of Ibadan, the state capital.


Reports gathered that Biola was on his way to the hospital to pick his wife when he was killed for refusing to pay the policemen a bribe of N50.










A witness, who identified himself simply as Segun, said he was on his way to work when he witnessed the scene.


He alleged that policemen in the area daily engaged in the extortion of commercial bus drivers and motorcyclists popularly called Okada.


“The officers stopped the deceased and were trying to extort money from him but he did not give them because he was rushing to the hospital to pick his wife.










“The officers insisted that he must give them money and weren’t listening to anything he was saying. Next thing we knew, one of them went to his side, hit him with his gun. Not satisfied, others joined and he was beaten mercilessly until he died,” the witness said.



Recalled that VOICE AIR MEDIA reported that Ayomide, a resident of Owena, was travelling back to his base from Iragbiji area of Osun state after the Eid-el-Kabir festival with his friend, Wasiu Oladimeji, when their motorcycle was stopped by some policemen at a checkpoint in Ilahun.










Wasiu said when they got to Ilahun village, along Ibokun road at about 3:30 pm, they met police officers at a checkpoint who ordered their bike to stop.


He said one the officers became aggrieved when he asked Ayomide to pay N50, but he delayed in paying.


Wasiu said when the officer found out that Ayomide had a huge sum of money with him, he became furious and hit him with the butt of the gun, which forced both of them to fall down and Ayomide became unconscious.










Meanwhile, the Inspector, an Osun State Magistrate Court in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area on Monday, 17th August remanded a dismissed Police Inspector, Ago Egharevba.

The Nigeria Police Force had dismissed Egharevba after he was tried at orderly room.


Police Prosecutor, Inspector Oladoye Joshua, told the court that about 5:00 p.m. at llahun, Ijebu-ljesa Road, Ibokun, Egharevba did unlawfully hit one Ayomide with the butt of his gun on top of a moving motorcycle which made him to lose control and fall down, leading to his death.











He further alleged that the ex-police inspector thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.


The Magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Awosan, ordered the remand of the accused in Ilesa Correctional Centre in the state.


She, however, adjourned the case till October 19, 2020.











In a related story, the family of deceased had urged well-meaning Nigerians to intervene in the case to avoid it being swept under the carpet.


In a chat with VOICE AIR MEDIA, the elder brother of the deceased, Taiwo Olaire, called on Nigerians to ensure the family gets justice in the case.










He also said the family would resist all means by the police to bury the case, adding: “We won’t allow the police to bury the case; we are going to do everything within our means to ensure we get justice.


“We also appeal to well-meaning Nigerians, human rights activists to come to our aid and support us in getting justice in this case.”
