Gov. Obaseki preaches peace ahead of September 19 governorship election

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has appealed to residents in the state to shun violence and always preach peace and harmony, noting that political offices are transient.

Governor Obaseki made the call in Benin City, the state capital, as he enjoined political actors to desist from fueling discord ahead of the September 19 governorship election.

Addressing members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Abundant life parish in Benin City, Governor Obaseki recalled that he was in the parish some months back to celebrate the birthday activities of the wife of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Idia Ize-Iyamu.

He said that that there was really no need for the mounting tension created ahead of the September 19 governorship election and asked for all to preach and maintain peace at all times.

His Bayelsa State counterpart, Douye Diri, who was present during the service, described his emergence as governor in Bayelsa, as an extraordinary event.

He believed that Governor Obaseki will also find favour in the sight of God and man on the election day.

Both Governors are advocating for a peaceful conduct of the exercise on September 19.
