Frank Lampard confirms double injury boost ahead of Bayern Munich clash

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is delighted with his team's effort this season, despite losing the FA Cup final.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that both N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are fit for Saturday’s Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on the road.

The Blues ended their domestic season with an FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal and during that game, Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic (both hamstring) and Pedro (dislocated shoulder) sustained injuries.

As a result, the trio have been ruled out for the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern alongside Billy Gilmour (knee surgery) and Willian (knock).

Aside from the quintet, Jorginho and Marcos Alonso are also unavailable for the Munich trip as they are serving one-game European suspensions, but Kante and Loftus-Cheek are back in contention.

Kante made the matchday squad for the Wembley showdown against the Gunners, but Lampard decided against playing him as he was not entirely fit after recovering from a hamstring injury.

On the other hand, Loftus-Cheek picked up a minor problem in the lead up to the FA Cup final last weekend, but he has recovered in time for the Bayern encounter.

Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Lampard confirmed the availability of the duo and stated that they are fit to start, he told: “Ruben Loftus-Cheek is back in the squad, and Kante is in the squad. They are both fit to start.”

The Blues are 3-0 behind after the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern and they face a huge task on their hands to overcome the deficit at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern are unbeaten since early December with 25 wins from 26 matches and the Blues would need a miraculous display to overturn the tie with the depleted squad at Lampard’s disposal.
