12 months after, #RevolutionNow members storm street as Arrested protesters released in Lagos, Abuja, detained in Osun

12 months ago the #RevolutionNow had protested across the country in Nigeria, that led to arrest of the lead convener of the protest, Omoyele Sowore, who was arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) sometimes last year and later released through a court order.


Again, the members of the #RevolutionNow protesters has stormed the street yesterday, August 5th, 2020.










The protesters are demanding better governance in Nigeria, an end to corruption and improvement in the security and welfare of citizens and many more...


Protesters who were arrested in Lagos and Abuja on Wednesday were released hours later. However, the protesters arrested in Osun were detained overnight.










VOICE AIR MEDIA reported how members of protesters were arrested in different states of the nation as security agencies used enforcement power to stop the largely peaceful #RevolutionNow protests.


Meanwhile, the actions of the security agencies have been condemned by civic groups and many Nigerians.










In Lagos, journalist Agba Jalingo and 18 other protesters who were arrested during the protest were released Wednesday evening.


VOICE AIR MEDIA gathered that all the 19 protesters that were arrested in Lagos had been freed, according to a lawyer, Inibehe Effiong


“They were taken from Area F to Ikeja police command and were subsequently taken to mobile court, and all of them were discharged,” he said.










In Abuja, Deji Adeyanju in a statement released on his social media handle obtained by VOICE AIR MEDIA, he is one of the organisers of the protest confirmed that all the arrested protesters had been released.


However, it was a different story for seven protesters in Osun state who were kept in custody after their arrest.


VOICE AIR MEDIA earlier reported that activist Olawale Bakare and six others were arrested at the #RevolutionNow protest in Osun State










However, our reporter gathered that the arrested activists in Osun are yet to be released at the State Security Service custody.


Mr Bakare was arrested alongside Dunsi Olowolafe, Abiodun Sanusi, Gift Martins, Martins Jesuloni, and two others in Osogbo on Wednesday.










A lawyer to the Osun protesters, Alfred Adegoke, also narrated to newsmen his experience in trying to secure bail for his clients.


“We got to the SSS today to check on the arrested individuals but the overzealous SSS did not allow us to get them released. They have gone to obtain an order to detain them for 14 days,” Mr Adegoke said.


This newspaper could not obtain the details of the remand order allegedly obtained by the SSS, as of the time of this report.
