Yours Excellency,
A CALL FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ONLINE LEARNING FOR HIGHER INSTITUTIONS IN EKITI STATE AND AN APPLAUD FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND TECHNOLOGY, ISAN EKITI.
With immense gratitude, let me use this opportunity to register my heart-felt gratitude and sincere appreciation to my Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Nigeria, for the establishment of a world class College of Agriculture and Technology in Ekiti state which is aimed at developing agriculture in the state and Nigeria at large.
Having considered the shift of Nigeria focus on Oil to Agriculture for economic growth, the College is coming at an appropriate time to fill the gap of the diversification by training and producing graduates who will be versed in Agricultural and Technological knowledge needed to do great exploit in the sector.
We are aware of the vision of the College which will also empower her Graduates to be Entrepreneur by providing linkages for grant, fundraising and various empowerment schemes.
Raising young professionals in the field of agriculture and technology is the best known alternative at a time the country have shut her boarder against importation of food. We need to produce sufficient food for consumption and exportation to boost our economy.
We appreciate your good works in ensuring the institutions in the state remain a focal reference point through your relentless efforts in ensuring developmental strides.
As an ICT oriented Governor, we applaud your recent directive given on May 12th, 2020 which is centered on the promotion of broadband penetration in the State. This is coming at a time when it is most needed and we commend this ingenious achievement.
Your Excellency sir, we would like to bring to your notice the appeal from well meaning students in our state higher institutions on the need to setup an online learning platform to keep them engaged.
This is a way to go having considered the directives given by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 which came as an appeal to institutions to commence online learning. This is a way of ensuring that the students are intellectually engaged and keep tabs with the usual learning and teaching activities typical of an institution of higher learning and still maintaining the social distancing directives.
As The Fountain of Knowledge that we are and the frontier of education excellence in this nation, we should be a pacesetter in matters of Educational importance.
We are aware of some impending challenges to make this a reality especially as the venture is capital intensive one that requires a whole lot of technicalities. This is why we propose that Technical experts in this discipline should be consulted.
It is pivotal at this point to saddle all our State institutions with the responsibility of identifying major technical experts in the field of information technology who can pilot this innovation in our various institutions and partner them on PPP to ensure students are abreast with academic activities regardless of their place of residence.
We express a very high level of certitude and optimism that our state will be recognized not only as the first institution to bring about this innovation but it will reignite the believe the good people of Ekiti State have in the government with respect to educational matters.
