Children should listen to clean songs – Malaka
Eight-year-old singer and entertainer, Makayla Malaka, has said that children need to have access to music without lewd lyrics. The child star, who just released her debut album, titled, Eight told Sunday Scoop that her music is meant for ‘children like her and parents who desire entertainment with valuable morals and something pure to relate with’. She also expressed unhappiness at the fact that most entertainment contents are targeted at teenagers and adults. She said, “The creative industry largely ignores kids, who are one of the largest consumers of entertainment materials. As a result of that, most Nigerian kids resort to foreign contents such as music and cartoons to be entertained. In some cases, they end up consuming local adult-related contents. However, I believe that my music is the answer for kids and young teenagers.
“I want to be a brand that African parents can tell their kids to look up to by availing them access to lyrically healthy songs that will mould their kids’ characters and inspire them to greatness while having fun with the music.”
Speaking on what influenced her album, she said, “It symbolises my age. And I am happy that since its official release, the eight-track album has been getting rave reviews online, and airplay on major radio stations and TV channels across the country. Also, all the tracks on the album are available in major digital stores. In addition, popular kid comediennes, Emmanuella and Success, have posted video clips of them dancing to my songs on their Instagram pages and I’m grateful to them for that.”
Malayka also noted that one of the singles on the album, Grandma Told Me was inspired by the stories and lessons her grandmother taught her.
