Court Sacks Osun Monarch, Says He Was Wrongly Nominated, announces new Monarch

An Osun State High Court sitting in Ikire has ruled that the current occupant of the stool of Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi of Lambeloye ruling house has no legal right to occupy the stool.










The judgment is coming after 27 years that Oba Falabi has been on the throne.


The supreme court led by justice Walter Onoghen had on the 11th of April 2014 affirmed 1958 Akire Chieftaincy declaration and ruled that Aketula ruling house is entitled to the stool of Akire like four other ruling houses of Ladepon, Disamu, Lambeloye and Onisokan.










But the supreme court did not state expressly whether Candidate from Aketula ruling house should be enthroned in place of Oba Olatunde Falabi.


Delivering his judgment, Justice Abdulrazak Abdulkareem of the Osun State High Court said the processes that led to his installation as Akire were faulty.










He said Oba Olatunde Falabi was not validly nominated and his ruling house was not next in line to produce the next Akire.


He said it was a gross insubordination that the same judgment delivered by the supreme court in 2014 which affirmed 1958 Akire chieftaincy declaration was not implemented.










The judgment sent the people outside the court premises into wild jubilation.


Security operatives had to act professionally with an unusual presence of residents in and around the court premises.










After the judgement, Prince Tajudeen Olanrewaju from Aketula ruling house was adorned with Akoko leaf by his supports to signal their preparedness for his installation.


However, counsel to both the plaintiff and the defendant are divided over the judgment.
