Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Undie Adie, has reminded residents of the state that the stay-at- home and social distancing directives of government to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the state is still in force.
He said this in a statement made available to newsmen by command PPRO, ASP. Tee-Leo Ikoro, on Saturday in Akure.
Adie said that the clarification was based on a statement from the state government that a second index case recorded in the state on Friday.
VOICE AIR Media recalls that the state government, on April 7, granted churches permission to hold easter services, but cancelled the directives on Saturday when the state recorded a second case of Coronavirus..
“The state notes with deep concern the index case. This development has once again reinforced the need to deepen our collective efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Against the backdrop of the above , the Ondo State government has directed the cancellation of the special concession granted churches across the State to celebrate Easter Sunday Services”.
According to him, the eagerness of those in desperate pursuit to overcome the unfortunate exigencies is made worse by their failure to see the dangers ahead.
“Coronavirus is real and only those who live by advises can overcome it; those who refuse to abide by the warnings and directives of leaders in authority may live with amazing tales of woes, told so much in desolate exclamation completed by shrugs in deep sighs, if only they survive,” he said.
Adie, therefore, advised law abiding citizens to obey the directives of government on COVID-19.
He said any disobedience would force the command under his supervision to abandon persuasion in enforcing the stay-at-home and social distancing directives to the use of drastic measures to enforce the directive.
The commissioner said that with the press statement from government, he had redirected the Area Commanders, DPOs, heads of the various Anti-crime outfits in the command to ensure strict compliance.
He stressed that no church service should be allowed under this condition as only the living could praise God.
