By Tunde Olorungbotemi

...Lawmakers in Ondo state have refused to cancel the local government elections scheduled for April 18 despite the threats of coronavirus

- Interestingly, the lawmakers suspended plenary for two weeks to enable members visit their constituencies

- They also barred visitors from parking inside the House premises but to park outside with a view to using the wash hand basin and sanitisers provided

Ondo state lawmakers on Thursday, March 19 rejected a motion by the only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member in the House, Rasheed Elegbeleye, that the April 18 local government elections be postponed till further notice as a way to curb the spread of the dreaded coronavirus.

Elegbeleye had argued that the local elections would make people gather in a place and postponing the polls would help to curb the spread of CONVID-19.

The majority All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers shouted him down and rejected the motion.

  1. That's an uncivilized decision and I wonder why it is been celebrated in a publication too. It sounds vindictive of the opposition and shows that public health matters not to the ruling party.
    It's a shame!!!
