"Our Culture, Our Pride!" - Voiceairmedia
By Akinroyeje Ayeoyenikan
The beauty of every culture is in its transmission to the progeny.
This was the case in virtually every school in Irele and its environs as pupils and students dressed from home in different traditional attires.
The management of these schools also help in bringing the beauty of different cultures alive in form of various activities ranging from songs, dancing steps, poems, dramatic to language use.
In his tour to these schools, our correspondent reports:
"There is need to identify someone with his/her indigenous identity. This tells much of a man than we people might probably perceive him to be. As you can see right now, teachers from different cultural background gather up their students and teach them what their culture means to them.... "
Mr Elijah Akinlabi,
Principal United Grammar School, Ode-Irele.
"Our culture is our pride. That is an undisputable fact. It was transferred to us. So we have the mandate to hand it over to our children. " Mr Obolo B. O. Principal OMGS Ode-Iyansan.
In the like manner, some of the parents of these children express their excitement on this annual celebration. Some of them said it was a source of excitement to the whole community as many parents sit in front of their homes watching pupils and students going to schools in different native outfit.
Some of the students who spoke with our correspondent also expressed their joy in showing whom they are. They enjoin the government to keep supporting this initiative so that the indigenous culture of our people will not one day go to extinction.
