NANS Zone D warns gateway Poly against victimization of students, issues ultimatum

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students South West Zone (NANS Zone D) ably led by Comrade Kappo Olawale after a wide consultation issued a confrontational statement against the management of the Gateway Polytechnic Saapade (GAPOSA) under the administration of Dr. I.K Oyeyinka, an institution located at the very heart of Ode-Remo, a suburb of Remo North Local Government in the Gateway State.

The Deputy Coordinator NANS Zone D in a statement signed unanimously exclaimed "Our attention has the apex Students body in South West has been drawn to the long standing victimization of Nigerian students, their persecution and puppetism under the guise of morality, discipline and mundane oath of allegiance by the management of the Gateway Polytechnic Saapade.

As Students' body, from time immemorial we have maintained an equal footing partnership and an unshaken relationship with our administrators of knowledge (School Authorities) in all of our Tertiary Institutions in South West in all facets of the academic system with specific focus on our students' welfarism sociologically, educationally, mentally, psychologically and politically.

It is saddening at the level to which the school arbitrarily encroaches, depreciates and malign into pathetic and enforce archaic policies testrunning all manners of mundane bureaucratic, especially the ones fabricated with barbarism devised to treat with disdain some perceived Students' activists who hitherto have been voices to reckon with, with peculiarity to Equity, Justice and Leadership Accountability and Transparency.

Declare, that ordinarily it should have been in the interests and be the responsibility of the academic community to cater for and ensure the safety of her students above board. But it’s quite unfortunate that Gateway Polytechnic Saapade (GAPOSA) has taken to the sides of the oppressors by proscribing the formidable Students Union Government (SUG) and terminating the elective offices of her executives, the dastardly act that was hinged upon and carried out during and under the incumbency of her President 'Comrade Asani Olushola (BOBOLAW)’, a perceived threat and voracious titan who led a massive tuition fee hike protests combatantly against the way his students are being treated with disdain and mediocrity, despite consultation moves and peace dialogues engaged with the management in time past under the leadership of Dr. I.K Oyeyinka.

Strongly opine that our students are not safe and cannot be trusted in the hands of an autocratic, a standing rebellion and an agent of calumny, an unshaken affront against the dreams and aspirations of our students under Dr. I.K Oyeyinka. Although, we are aware vividly the transformation strides of the polytechnic from that of primitive to a globally competitive institution of learning which is visible to the eyes and audible to the ears.

However, It cannot be defended that our students interests can be guaranteed under a nice house with no roof, the dividends of democracy transcend beyond infracstructural development and jaw breaking edifices, for if democracy does not encourage expression of conflicting interests by creating unequivocal channels of feedback, then our people may say that “na democracy we go chop”?

Moreover, we also register our displeasure and regret over the persecution and crucification of a Campus Journalist of the institution, an ND 2 Mass Communication student who has been labelled 'Usurper and Shenanigan of the Academic Environment', our student 'Inumidun Ayoola Babalola’ who in himself was not happy at the way students are being held hostage and circumferenced brain drain and who had improvised all channels of justice to ensure the management sit aright and discharge her students from rive oppression being perpetuated.

Furthermore, it Is on the suspension of Inumidun Ayoola Babalola's portal by the Management of Gateway Polytechnic Saapade, Ogun State (GAPOSA), sequel to his viral publication on Sowore and against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu which was duely published on Sahara Reporters and which culminated into his invitation by the Department of State Security (DSS) Ogun State Command of which our leadership believe was surely sponsored and coordinated by his shenanigans and adversaries tented within the jurisdiction of the powers that be.

One thing must be made clearer from the foregoing, Ayoola has been a consistent nightmare and threats to the atrocities of some echelons in the school's organogram and if radical steps are not meted on him, he could become a burning powder haunting their inglorious and shameful deeds.

On this note, we give the management of Gateway Polytechnic Saapade, Remo, Ogun State a 7-days ultimatum to put to halt her phenomenal extremism against Nigerian students by providing an atmosphere of love, personal expression and the rule of law through liberation of our students by the shackles of oppression and bureaucratic.

Also, i state it emphatically and not sympathetically, that the usual invisible ban placed on our students by the institution and her machinations should step aside and our sister organization the “Students Union Government (SUG)" be REOPENED and LIFTED without no further delay. This should be carried within the ultimatum given and an independent electoral body should be constituted.

That, our comrades be granted 'ACCESS'  to all manners of platforms needed to register their displeasure by challenging any irregularities and policies of the school either favorable or unfavorable within the ambit of the constitution of Nigeria as amended.

That the Students Representative Council (SRC) and the Central Executive Council (CEC) should be re-instated and objectives reviewed as well as with fresh elections conducted and contestants given equal opportunities to test the potent power of popularity and political influence and the institution management having no INTEREST in who the cap fits all within the 7 Days Ultimatum.

That, our students and associations, especially the media should have access to an enabling environment where they can air their views and opinions without fear or favour as expressed in the charter of the  Universal Human Rights Declaration.

That, our student 'Inumidun Ayoola Babalola's' portal be re-opened and granted opportunity to continue his calling as a responsible active journalist and all machinations channeled against him be put to halt and also his adversaries step aside.
