2020 Grammy Awards: Will Burna Boy grab a Grammy this weekend?

All attention will be focused on the 2020 Grammy Awards which holds on Sunday night at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, United States of America.

The nomination of his album ‘African Giant’ and his feature in Beyoncé’s ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ gives Burna Boy a very good shot at the international award.


He has been nominated in the ‘Best World Music Album’ category for ‘African Giant’. With Beyoncé’s ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ contesting for the ‘Best Pop Vocal Album’. He has two shots at his first Grammy award.


Burna Boy, alongside Mr Eazi, Wizkid, Yemi Alade and Tiwa savage all featured in Beyoncé’s ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ album released in July last year.


The buzz on social media has been non-stop since Burna Boy announced his nomination on Twitter saying, ‘African Giant’ is Grammy Nominated! It’s been a crazy day, so grateful to everyone on the album from the producers to co-producers to featured artistes to engineers. I appreciate all your input to making the album. We should all be very proud”.


Most Nigerians feel that it is definitely time for a Nigerian to win a Grammy seeing how our music has enjoyed world attention in recent time.


It was reported, days ago, that Burna Boy’s songs were part of Michelle Obama’s exercise playlist. Other world celebrities have also been seen online grooving to Burna Boy’s songs, among other notable Nigerian artistes.

The Grammy Awards is given in 84 categories. Among them are Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artiste, Best Solo Performance, and other areas such as dance, instrumentals and more.

Artistes contesting in the ‘Best World Music Album’ category with Burna Boy include Altin Gün (‘Gece’), Bokanté and Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley, Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet (Fanm D’ayiti), and Angelique Kidjo (‘Celia’).
