REVAMP MORIBUND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM PRINCE EZE MADUMERE URGE'S GOVERNMENT.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Stateman in Imo State and former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere has called on the Federal and State Government to revamp Nigeria's moribund health care system.



Prince Eze Madumere bemoaned the rising spate of dearth of specialist doctors due to brain drain, lack of increased spots for specialist training, overcrowded wards, long wait times for patients, poorly trained, overworked and underpaid healthcare personnel, and loss of revenue to countries such as India, UK, US, who attract Nigerians to “better healthcare” and the guise of “Health Tourism” to their benefit.

Prince Eze Madumere has advocated for a pragmatic and radical approach towards healthcare in Nigeria.

He made this call while reacting to the rising wave of health care tourism among the elite in Nigeria.  Prince Eze stated that Healthcare is a vital part of any society  as the  growth and wealth of any nation can be visible in the well-being of her citizens.

He admonished Government at all levels to invest in human as well infrastructural development in the health sector, strive to improve health services and bolster productivity in the workforce by improving life expectancy, sustain committed approach to reducing maternal-infant mortality rates and  eradicating communicable diseases in order to attain the UN Sustainable
development goals (SDGs), 

 Prince Eze Madumere further called for a collaborative Public-Private partnership in management of  our hospitals, maintainance of facilities, investment in research and development and social health programs such as health insurance schemes. 

He expressed fear on the  recent studies which  have shown that there is an increasing number of Nigerians who are becoming diabetic and dying of heart attack and cancers.

Prince Madumere reaffirmed the need for the establishment of  Specialty Centres  to serve Nigerians in the areas of Cardiology, Cancer care and treatment, Endocrinology which will include Diabetes and other related pathologies, expansion of already existing Public Health Institutions as such expansion has a multiplier effect of increasing provision for internship and resident training thereby accommodating the growing number of medical graduates, decrease the brain-drain in Nigeria.
