PANDEMONIUM IN EKITI VERSITY AS SUG HOLDS PROTEST

On Wednesday evening, the SUG released a broadcast that there would be a protest on Thursday morning.

Stating that the reason for the protest is to agitate for the postponement of the Revalidation exercise in the school; non requirement of smart school and jamb admission letter as prerequisite for Revalidation.

Although the protest was geared towards airing out the standpoint of Eksuites and lessen the burden of the revalidation exercise, but the students reacted negatively against the protest, claiming that they have already succumb to the process and are already making necessary payments. They also claimed that it's already at the 11th hour.

Due to this, the satellite gate that was locked by the SUG was broken down by the angry students, allowing them have entry.

The SUG, after being insulted and asked to stop the protest still refused to back down on the protest, proceeded to the School main gate where further agitations took place. The protest umbrella was snatched off their hands and taken over by the students. The SUG were called all sort of degrading names, claiming that they are only fighting for their pockets and not for the students.

The students no longer sees the SUG as the students representative saddled with the responsibility of caring for the students.

Despite the heavy rain, the students refused to leave the school and continued to chant and excitedly singing Aluta songs and other intoxicating songs, boosting their Morales.

What the students were agitating for includes;

- No to unnecessary payments of dues

- No to smart school

- Postponement of Revalidation.

- No to jamb admission letter

"Come to think of it, of what use is the head when the neck is unstable, of what use are the SUG when the students are still suffering. The SUG were expected to lead the protest the very first day the release concerning Revalidation was made. Said a concerned student.

A lot of difficulties were faced by the students during the Revalidation process, some students fainted after queuing for hours without Food.

For instance, at the faculty of Art, the officials, instead of attending to the people on the queue were bringing in people from outside who had the influence of one lecturer, while others are suffering on the long never ending queue.

Another case is that of a corps member collecting money from the students so he can pen down their names.

This Revalidation has caused a lot of uproar, chaos, misunderstanding and suspicious behavior and disagreements between parents and children.

A lot of students sleep over at Jamb office just for regularization of admission which was at the first instance caused by the school.

The Revalidation should have taken place next year after resumption with the requirements on ground.

After the initial protest, a statement from the office of the registrar of the university says some contentious requirements in the exercise have been expunged

The letter stated that the Revalidation process has been extended for one more week and it's ending on the 8th November and the following documents are no longer required.

1)Evidence of payment of GST dues

2)Evidence of ESC dues

3) Jamb Admission Letter

4) Evidence of payment of Smart School

5) SUG receipt.
