ENGAGE THE CITIZENS TO IMPROVE GOVERNANCE: YAPJEN URGES OBIANO
A human right, good governance and social justice advocacy group, Youth Advocates For Peace Justice and Empowerment Network (YAPJEN) has called on Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State to maximise the various mass medium available to his disposal to engage the citizens with a view to finding their most peculiar challenges.
In a press release made available to newsmen in Awka Anambra State, Amb Timothy Nwachukwu, The Executive Director of Youth Advocates For Peace Justice and Empowerment Network (YAPJEN) stated that the basic role of the government is to deliver democratic dividends to the citizenry.
The youth Ambassador noted that political sycophants and praise singers are not in the best position to relay the feelings or pains of the citizens to the government as they are in government for their stomach infrastructure.
YAPJEN through its Executive Director further advised the governor to maximise the various mass medium to get the rating of the citizens on how far he is faring in government.
The group noted that previous governments engaged in live television and radio phone in programs to identify to interact with the citizens as this gives the government an avenue to evaluate its policies and program and its effect in the citizens.
Amb Timothy Nwachukwu further urged the Governor to open up a dedicated lines in the spirit of *Opening up governance* where the citizens can get to interact with him and make meaningful contribution to the good governance of the State.
YAPJEN scored the Governor high on the area of providing security equipment for the various security agencies but decried the incessant harassment and intimidation of the citizens by security personnel using the same apparatus provided by the government through the tax payers money.
The group urged the Governor to ensure that he gets feedback from the citizens as it will help him in improving in his quest to provide democratic dividends to the citizens.
