While I was still excruciatingly grinding my teeth on the number of votes garnered in the just concluded BBNaija compared to February 2019 general elections, another alarming and shocking revelation greeted us. This is the country we found ourselves anyways.

Recently, the news making rounds is how lecturers of our Citadels of "Hell" were indicted for soliciting sex to help students. In simple term "Sex for grade." This uncouth act is one of the many problems bedevellling the country Nigeria. It doesn't mean this barbaric act just came into existence, just that it has become rampant in recent years.

The story of sex for grades is virtually the same in all higher institutions irrespective of ownership or category. The important thing to take cognizance of is that it involves two persons; "the powerful culprit and the weak victim".

Some randy lecturers have being caught in the act and axed accordingly. This, however, has not successfully deter others from keeping their cool just because of the 'mansion between the legs'.

However, it's mostly believed that the culprits are more powerful than the victims; this situation makes students vulnerable and some, the gullible.

Most lecturers failed to desist from the act because they enjoy the support of some hidden academias. So sad as it may be, that if eventually they get exposed they probably will get a soft landing. All of these further show the decadence in our education sector.

We may quickly run into criticizing students for wearing provocative dresses within campuses or to lecturers offices, however, we should blame those who are expected to be guardians to students for turning the weakness of the students to their on strength.

In some cases, victims of sex for grades had no option than to submit to the demands of the lecturers because of the fear of being failed. You surely would understand better if you spent four years seeking for admission. Some HODs and Deans who are suppose to be students' confidants are unfortunately part of the movement.

Many of these evil lecturers had gone ahead to to fail students who did refuse to dance to their tunes. They deliberately do all these to weaken tenacious students by dishing out extra year to them.

Meanwhile, students who are mostly their prey are those that place schooling over education; those that believed certificate is more paramount than what is learnt. For them,  certificate is so important that it is either you have it or die in the process of looking for it. Our system that places a first class graduate that maneuver is way over a third class graduates that studied to get it is also to be blame for all bad things that continually be fall us.
