Ondo Nurses Association Get New EXCOS, Warns Members Against Unethical Practices

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), the Ondo State Chapter has cautioned its members against unethical practices and professional misconducts in discharging their duties, VAM Online News reports.

The Association also reiterated its call on the Ondo State government to put in place machineries for urgent employment of more nurses into the state hospitals across the 18 local government areas.


The new Chairman of the Association, Comrade Kehinde Nomiye made the plean at Nurses’ House, Igbatoro Road, Akure while taking the oath of office after his election, VAM reports.


He said nurses in the state were hardworking, deserving to have a career progression and urged them always uphold code of ethics.


Nomiye who was elected unopposed to succeed Comrade Opeyemi Oloniyo, said recruiting fresh nurses would fill the gap created by retiring health officers and those leaving for a greener pastures home and abroad.


Other NANNM officers elected during the delegates’ conference included Comrades Imorhoa Olutayo -Vice Chairman; Matthew Omolowo -Treasurer; Fagbemi Jeremiah-Public Relations Officer; Gideon Omoseebi-Auditor I; Samuel Dada -Auditor II and Bukunmi Adejayan-Financial Secretary.


The election was conducted by National Secretariat’s officials led by Comrade (Mrs) Florence Ekpebor (Deputy General Secretary), Chief Egwuatu and Elder Daniel Otaru and it was witnessed by ondo state government’s representatives including the State Director of Nursing Services, Mrs Alice Ogundele.


Speaking after their inauguration, the new Chairman of the Association, Comrade Nomiye lamented that various government’s health facilities in the state were currently understaffed with nurses and midwives considering volume of patients seeking medical services in the state.


The NANNM Chairman who vowed to run an inclusive administration that would defend interest of his members, commended the present administration of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for its huge investment in the health sector, urging the governor to look into various demands of nurses in the state for smooth service delivery at various medical facilities of government.


Nomiye, “it is obvious that our members are being overworked due to shortage of nursing personnel, the way nurses are retiring from the service needs to be addressed with fresh hands.”


The Chairman said, “although the state government has been complaining of lack of resources to meet wage bill, but we hope something will be done about this soonest. The governor (Oluwarotimi Akeredolu) is trying his best for the health sector and workers generally in the state, paying salaries regularly.”


 
Nomiye also urged the State Government on the need to domesticate the unified scheme of service for nurses which will allow members of the profession attain the peak of their career.


He opined that, “domestication of the Federal Circular on Unified Scheme of Service and Internship is very important and we are leadership is passionately requesting the Government to domesticate the Uniiied scheme of the Service approved for Nurses and Midwives at the 2016 National Council of Establishment.”



The NANNM Chairman who said the annual Nurses’ week was set aside to celebrate Nurses and Midwives for their invaluable contributions to global health further commended members of the profession for dutifully discharging their duties in the face of challenges saying their sacrifices is acknowledged.
