Re UNIMED Vacancies and Purported Application Charges of Applicants

Kindly permit me to appreciate, on behalf of the Ondo State Government, all those who expressed concerns over the above subject matter. If at all, albeit some hasty conclusions erroneously drawn with understandably warped motives, I consider such as wake up stunts rather than viewing same as uncanny outbursts, VAM has learnt.

The administration of Governor Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN upon assumption of office, promised to instill good governance in all sectors of the administration. The government remains unwavering in this regard. This avowed commitment is further given potency by Mr. Governor's mantra of Thinking Anew, Acting Anew.

The purpose of appointing aides and other lieutenants in government is to share responsibilities, believing that such would be judiciously deployed for good governance. For emphasis therefore, Governor Akeredolu, after approving the request to fill vacancies and shortfalls in the Teaching Hospital, did not need to usurp the responsibilities and functions of the Chief Medical Director who is the Chief Executive Officer of the tertiary medical institution.

It is perhaps, imperative for me to state that rather than being offended or hurt by such pardonable conclusions arising from the subject matter, a clear and precise response to all such insinuations linking Mr Governor directly, with same is pertinent. For the records therefore, please find below, an unedited clarification from the Chief Medical Director of the UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Dr Ige.

Thanks and God bless all.

Statement from the CMD, UNIMED Teaching Hospital

The process adopted for the filling of personnel vacancies in the teaching hospital as approved magnanimously by Arakunrin Akeredolu  in-spite of the constraints on personnel bill of the state was very transparent. The positions were duly advertised for 6weeks in national and local dailies, and also online. A sum of 5000 Naira for procurement of senior cadre forms and 2500 Naira for junior cadre forms were included in the advert. This sum was duly approved by the supervising Implementation committee of the Teaching hospital headed by The Deputy Governor,  for  the purpose of printing forms, advertisement, shortlisting, conducting screening test and interview expenses.

All the Medical Professional applicants have been screened, shortlisted and interviewed with no exception. All the applicants who are qualified to take up the advertised positions were selected and offered appointment through a transparent process that lasted over 3months. The process  included Written Examinations and over 30  Oral panel interview  sessions.

All the candidates (successful and not Successful) were duly informed of their performance and outcome of the written examinations. The oral  interview sessions for the Core Professionals were also video taped and can be viewed by appropriate authorities.

Over 200 doctors,  250 nurses, 40 Medical  laboratory technicians and  scientist, over 100 Health attendants, 20 pharmacists,  16 Accountants, 10 Physiotherapists, 30 Health Information Managers have been employed.

The purported story of defrauding the people is only in the imagination of detractors of the administration, who have refused to see the giant stride been made in all facet of governance in The Teaching Hospital and Ondo State in General.

The administration should be applauded for creating jobs.

Signed
Dr Ige Oluwole
