Mathematics teacher under trial for sending nude pictures to female pupil

For allegedly sending nude pictures and videos to a 14-year-old pupil, a Mathematics teacher, Emmanuel David, was on Tuesday brought before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ikeja.

The 40-year-old teacher was arraigned before Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi on one count of sexual harassment.

It was learnt that David allegedly harassed the pupil by sending love messages, pornographic pictures and videos to her and requesting her nude pictures and videos through WhatsApp.

It was gathered that the defendant was arrested when the pupil’s mother, whose phone was being used by the victim, reported to the police.

The police prosecutor, Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the teacher committed the offence between August 5 and 10, 2019, in the Agege area of the state.

He said, “The defendant, a Mathematics teacher, was making advances to his teenage pupil and he asked for her phone number and the girl, who did not have a phone, gave him her mother’s number.

“The defendant started sending love messages and nude pictures, thinking he was chatting with the girl, but her mother was reading all his messages. When he asked for the girl’s naked pictures and videos, the mother reported the case and the defendant was arrested.”

The offence was said to contravene Section 264 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Osunsanmi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties, who must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till October 16 for mention.
