Arrest OF Wadume: YAN, IGP hails DCP Abba Kyari

The recent re-arrest of the Taraba born notorious kidnapper, Alhaji Bala Hamisu Wadume, by officers of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, has received a wonderful applause and commendations from the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN).

The national speaker, Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN); Rt.Hon. Godstime Chukwubuikem Samuel while addressing journalists in Owerri yesterday said that apart from the re-arrest of Alhaji Wadume, DCP Kyari has been instrumental to the arrest to many ‘very rough’ and hardened criminals in different parts of the country in the recent past and a such deserves accolades.  

DCP Kyari was the leader of the team that arrested the famous billionaire kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwaumadike Aka Evans in Lagos State and his gang members last year.

He was also the leader of the team  that  arrested the Offa Bank robbers that invaded Offa Town, Kwara State and robbed five commercial banks and also murdered 31 innocent Nigerians. This was said to be the deadliest bank robbery in the history of Nigeria.

Abba Kyari also lead the team that arrested the killers of former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Air Marshal Alex Badeh ‘rtd’ along Keffi-Gitata Kaduna road;  the arrest of  the most wanted Boko-Haram Commander, Umar Abdulmalik and 8 of his terrorists gang members.

 He also led the team that fished out and picked 22 Boko-Haram terrorist gang members responsible for the kidnap of the Chibok school girls in 2014 and also responsible for series of suicide bombings, attacks and ambush against security men in the three states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.

DCP Kyari also led the team that arrested the most deadly kidnapper that ever existed in Nigeria- Henry Chibueze Aka “Vampire” in Owerri, Imo State and his gang members, among many others.

Some of the notorious and die-hard criminals of different categories that have terrorized and kept Nigerians under intense agony and in perpetual fear in recent years met their end when Abba Kyari was brought to the scene.

The many questions, therefore, are; what is in DCP Kyari that is making him achieve this? Is he working with some extraordinary powers or mere application of intelligence?

In a recent interview on the way many Nigerians think that he is either a super human or is using charms to get the notorious criminals arrested, DCP Kyari said: “Many people believe that I use charms but I do not use any charms.

“For instance, when we arrested Ndagi about 14 years ago, there was a rumour that before I was able to arrest him, I travelled to my village in Maiduguri to get charms to help me make the arrest. 

They said it took me seven days to have the charm and that immediately I left Maiduguri, I got him arrested. I laughed because nothing like that happened and I did not even visit my village three months before his arrest.

“We were able to arrest him because we were dedicated. The technology we had then was nothing compared to what we have now.”

What however, made the re-arrest of Alhaji Wadume interesting was the circumstance surrounding his escape when he was first arrested.

In a statement by the Force Spokesman, Frank Mba, when the notorious kidnapper was re-arrested, he said: “The operatives of the Nigeria Police have re-arrested the notorious kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu Bala Wadume.

“He was re-arrested in the late hours of yesterday, August 19, 2019 in his hideout at Layin Mai Allo Hotoro area of Kano State.

“It would be recalled that the Police had been on the massive manhunt for the suspect, Alhaji Hamisu Bala Wadume, since August 6, 2019, following the unfortunate incident in Ibi, Taraba State which resulted in the brutal murder of 3 Police officers and 2 civilians, and injury to 5 others.

The suspect, who was appropriately restrained at the time of the incident, was subsequently released by his “rescuers” after they had destroyed the restraining handcuffs.

“Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu,  while commending the Police operatives for their perseverance and painstaking efforts, has expressed his profound gratitude to all Nigerians for their unparalleled show of love and empathy to the Force and the families of the officers and patriotic civilians who paid the supreme price in the service of their fatherland.

“It is his belief that the re-arrest of the suspect, Alhaji Hamisu Bala Wadume, will no doubt, help in bringing answers to the numerous but hitherto unanswered questions touching on the incident and the larger criminal enterprise of the suspect.”

With the kind of controversy and tension that ensued between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Military when Alhaji Wadume escaped after the initial arrest, one could only imagine what will happen if the kidnapper was not re-arrested.

In fact, many security analysts were of the opinion that if Alhaji Wadume was not re-arrested, this could have been the beginning of a long lasting sour relationship between the two sister institutions that will affect the general security of the country.

Thanks to the intervention of DCP Kyari which has  resulted in calming down the tension that was already becoming unbearable between the Police and the Army.

Therefore, it seems, DCP Kyari has a magic ward when it comes to arrest of notorious criminals in Nigeria.

It is important therefore, that the Nigeria Police Force, indeed, the Federal Government to continue to give him the needed encouragement that will motivate him to keep using his God-given talent to serve the nation.

Apart from giving awards, the Nigeria Police Force should  ensure that DCP Kyari is given the needed protection. This is necessary because, the criminals see him as a threat, hence, they may want to target him for elimination.

It would not be out of place for the first class detective to be given accelerated promotion. This will serve as an encouragement to other hidden talents in the Nigeria Police Force to come out and take the risk of fishing out criminal elements without compromise in order to protect lives and property in the country.
