Coalition of Kwara North Groups (CKNG), Group Implores Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq To Sign FOI Into Law
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq The essence of democracy is to promote good governance that is in tandem with the yearnings and aspirations of the citizens that freely elected their leaders. This cannot be achieved when the governed are deprived of vital information about the affairs of the State.
According to James Madison, the Fourth President of the United States of America, stated in 1822 that; “A popular Government without popular information, or the means of acquiring it, is but a Prologue to a Farce or a Tragedy; or perhaps both people who mean to be their own Governor, must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.”
This means that; timely access to information is a sine qua non for both the government and the governed.
This brings about the urgent need to Sign the FOI Bill which the 8th Kwara House of Assembly passed in the last days of its tenure into law.
The FOI Bill when signed into law by His Excellency, will uphold the principles of accountability, and the equal treatment of all people under the rule of law, especially the good people of Kwara North who have been marginalized overtime. The Bill will also help in citizens's engagement in fighting corruption, justly assessing the performance of elected officials, and most importantly, help *CKNG* 's advocacy for a better Kwara State on the principles of justice, equity and fairness.
*CKNG* is therefore optimistic, that the Executive Governor of the State of Harmony, having proved by his antecedence so far, to be a listening Governor, will heed this patriotic call.
