AFCON 2019: Super Eagles 🦅 become first team to qualify for Round of 16

Nigeria have qualified for the round of 16 at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, following their 1-0 win over Guinea on Wednesday.
The Super Eagles were already in pole position in Group B, following their 1-0 win over Burundi last weekend.

However, Gernot Rohr’s men found it tough against the Syli Stars, who had Naby Keita in their ranks from the start.

The breakthrough arrived in the second half after Kenneth Omeruo (defender) at 73rd minutes rose highest to head home Moses Simon’s cross.

Nigeria now have six points, ahead of their final group fixture against debutants, Madagascar on Sunday 30th of June 2019.

🥏🥏 Another player sent home from Egypt

Hosts, Egypt have sent midfielder Amr Warda home from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for disciplinary reasons.

The decision to remove Warda, who plays for Greek club PAOK, was announced on the day Egypt play DR Congo.

The Egypt Football Federation said he was withdrawn “to maintain discipline, commitment and concentration”.

It is understood that Warda’s social media conversations with several women have been leaked onto the Internet, after the Pharoahs’ 1-0 win over Zimbabwe in the tournament’s opening game.

The 25-year-old only appeared as a substitute in that match on Friday.

“The head of the Egyptian Football Federation, Hani Abu Reda, has decided to dismiss Amr Warda from the team’s camp after consulting with the team’s technical and administrative staff,” read a statement by the Egypt Football Federation on Twitter.

He is the second player to be sent home from the AFCON following Burundi forward Selemani Yamini Ndikumana.
