NYSC DG visits Bayelsa, canvasses security for Corp members

Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Maj-Gen Suleiman Kazaure has described Bayelsa State as one of the volatile states in terms of security in the country.

Kazaure spoke yesterday during his courtesy visit to 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and the Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police Force. 

According to him, the essence of the visit was to canvass more cooperation from critical stakeholders in the state, in order to ensure adequate safety of corps members, who are on national assignment. Recalled that hoodlums had on March 20, invaded a corps members’ lodge in Yenagoa, the state capital and killed two corps members and left several others injured. Why I am saying this is because you are critical stakeholders when it comes to security. “Please, look after our children, there are our national assets. We discovered that Bayelsa State is volatile when it comes to security,” the DG said. 

In his remark, Major General Obinna Onubogu, Commander of the 16 Brigade, represented by Lt-Col. Suleiman Abdullahi, Commander of the Brigade Garrison described NYSC as critical to national development. Onubogu commended the NYSC DG on his tour and pledged more support in order to improve the safety of corps members in the state. 

Mr Shola David, Police Commissioner in the state also assured the NYSC DG of Police commitment to the safety of corps members. “I assure you that cult attacking corps members will come to an end. 

In this state, cultism and drug-related crimes are problems but we will get to the end of them,” he stated.
