NUESA ELECTION: Stunted by the turnout of students, Electorates give comments on the reasons and dangers of principal offices going unopposed.
Despite the contingencies that surround this time, the electorates have turned out in sizeable number to exercise their voting power in electing the executives of the 2018/2019 academic session.
It was observed that almost all the principal offices like President, General Secretary, Treasurer, walfare Director are unopposed.NUESA Election 2019

''I have observed that people are no more ready to contest for political position in the College again. People don't believe in their leaders anymore and this is constantly affecting their political zeal. Another thing I see is that the cost of form fee is too high. With the limited time available for the election, not everybody could afford it.
This is not only affecting the politics of the college but Nigeria as a whole.''

''I am not happy with what happened this year. It wasn't like last year. It is not the fault of the electoral committee but I feel some students who have the ambition are scared to compete with other students who have already gained wider ground.
It is a threat to NUESA politics as people don't have the opportunity to choose and select effectively. It is whoever obtains the form that automatically wins.''

''The principal offices going unopposed is dangerous for students' welfarism. This limits the choice of people in knowing those who are more capable. Assuming there is opposition for these posts, the election will be more intensed than this.
The students need to be sensitized about students' Unionism and its importance. Everybody is a winner, whether you win or lose an election.''

''Before the sale of forms for the election began, I was aware that two aspirants were aspiring for the presidency but unfortunately, one of them dropout at the dire minute. Majority of the students are afriad of failure and you will never win if you don't dare to fail.
According to Aristotle, when the cognoscenti refuse to rule, they will be ruled by the ignoramus. Nobody can be forced to rule. Its a matter of choice and that's why I fear for the future of politics in this academic milieu.''NUESA 2019 Election exercise

''There is no enough awareness and enough time on the election. There should have been enough time so that students can be adequately prepared financially and physically. Aside from this, the financial implication of the post is a bit high considering the situation we are now.
Also, many aspirant who has the ambition are often scared when they get to know their opponent and this often propel them to withdraw.
The NUESA body has a lot to do in order not to curb the situation.''
Meanwhile, the counting of the election is still in progress. Periscope.
