NIGERIAN POLYTECHNIC STUDENTS SET TO SHUTDOWN THE NNAMDI AZIKIWE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Being a Press Text released at the end of an emergency NAPS Exco meeting on the 25th January, 2019 made available to VoiceAirMedia.

National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) is the national body of Nigerian students studying in Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Technology both at home and in Diaspora.
It is no news that the academic activities in our campuses have been paralysed since the 12th December of 2018 as a result of the nationwide strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP). The students had expected that the Federal Government would have met and come to terms with the striking lecturers by now so the students can return to class, unfortunately, the Federal Government have done nothing to help the situation while the students continue to battle with frustration.

NAPS had earlier written to the Government appealing for Government's intervention into the matter and also gave an ultimatum of 21 days which expired last week Thursday, Since the FG have refused to heed to the cry of the students, the National Executive of NAPS along side with the Senate arm have therefore concluded to shutdown the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday 31st January, 2019 to  Protest and press home our demands which is calling the Federal Government to reopen our institutions. We hereby instruct all SUG Presidents to begin to mobilise heavily with their Student Union Buses to FCT, Abuja on the scheduled date.
